If you're reading this blog then congratulations, you've found me..!
I thought that setting one of these up would be easy, but alas my lack of technological 'know-how' proved otherwise. Now that I have in part discovered the process though, here's hoping to good internet access in South Sudan and the ability to keep you entertained with pictures and stories.
Having my first mission in Sudan is actually quite fitting for me. Not long before moving to the UK everyone was reporting on the genocide taking place in Darfur (or the debate as to whether genocide was actually taking place) and during this time I watched a really interesting documentary. This wasn't the first documentary that made me cry, however looking back on it now, I do think that it was the first time that the seed of possibility planted itself in my head.
Somewhere between then and now the flower grow and I finally realised what it is that I want to do with my life. Although many people (my Dad mainly) laugh at my 'wanting to save the world' ideals, I do believe that it is many individual people who take steps (both big and small) to making this world a better place. Without these individuals and the influence that their steps and contributions make who knows where we'd be....
So 5 years later here I am.. Off to Sudan..! My first step....
Wish me luck...
To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never, to forget. – Arundhati Roy
On the road....
After South Sudan, after Jordan, I took on a new challenge... Not only professionally, but this time personal.
Since I started working with MSF my life has changed. There are many good things that have come from this change and things that have also, been less easy to deal with.
They say your 20's are the years in which you shape yourself.. My 20's are confused, upside down, different people, squares trying to fit into a circle and back into a square again.
These are my words since I start my journey with MSF and the biggest, most challenging steps I have taken in my life...
Enjoy...
